Economic administration, project management and surveys

Instrumental in setting up the Health Policy Research Unit at the Institute of Economic Growth, and in initiating research on important topics of health and development.

Head of research and management at the Health Policy Research Unit of IEG.

Negotiated and procured funding from bilateral and multilateral donor organisations for projects on developmental issues, with special emphasis on health.

Managed the Retail Prices Section and the Commercial Crop Section in the Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Ministry of Agriculture in the Government of India.

Extensive experience in design, administration and management of household surveys.

Assisted a nationwide rural household survey in India, as part of a project on the analysis of linkages between economic and demographic variables.

Training in policy analysis and economic development

Selected on the basis of a national competitive examination as a career economist in the Indian Government. Successfully completed two year training program in public policy, project analysis, development planning, and research methodology. Wrote a research paper on the determinants of deficit financing in India.

Course director for a six weeks' WHO/Ministry of Health & Family Welfare sponsored training programme in Health Economics and Policy Analysis for mid-career health professionals from the government.

Experience in teaching development economics, economic policy, monetary economics, and economic theory at the Universities of Maryland and Delhi. · Experience in teaching health and labor economics in various training programmes.
