Professor at IEG since 2002 he is presently the Dean FE at SAU and was the Director General, NILERD, GOI. His research interest includes issues in development, urbanisation, labour, corruption, industrialisation and productivity, services sector and gender inequality. With his M.A., M.Phil. and Ph.D. from Delhi School of Economics, post-doctorate from Northwestern University (USA) he has been a consultant to a number of international organizations, worked as a senior researcher at ILO, Geneva, held the Indian Economy Chair at Sciences Po. Paris, was a visiting scholar at IDE, and visiting professor at Nagoya University, Japan. He received the Mahalanobis memorial Gold Medal for his outstanding contribution to quantitative economics and Professor S. R. Sen best book award, 2019.
