Sabyasachi Kar
Sabyasachi Kar is the Director at the Institute of Economic Growth. He also holds the RBI Chair Professorship at the institute. Professor Kar has held an Honorary Senior Research Fellowship at the University of Manchester, UK, and been a Research Partner at the ESRC GPID research network based at the King's College London. He is a member of the committee on Regional Accounts set up by MOSPI, Government of India, and of the CII Economic Affairs Council. He has numerous academic publications in national and international journals of repute and his latest books include 'The Political Economy of India's Growth Episodes', published by Palgrave Macmillan, UK, and “How LMICs Could Increase Productivity”, published by Asian Productivity Organization, Tokyo.
Professor Kar received his Ph.D. in Economics from the Jawaharlal Nehru University and his academic research spans macroeconomics, economic growth, development economics and political economy, with a particular focus on the Indian economy. Over the years, he has worked closely with government organizations such as the Indian Planning Commission, and later with the NITI Aayog, contributing macroeconomic projections and other inputs to the formulation of economic policy for the Indian economy. He has collaborated academically with international organizations like the World Bank, the Global Development Network (GDN), the European Commission, and the DFID, UK. He has also held the RBI Chair Professorship at the National Institute of Public Finance and Policy and was Co-editor of the Journal of South Asian Development.
