Abstract:-
This research aimed to develop an investment case for interventions that would align the socio-economic development and the flow of ecological services for Kochi city, to support the implementation of the National biodiversity strategy and action plan (NBSAP).The study was conducted in 2 parts. Phase 1 developed feasibility criteria, conducted a feasibility assessment from among possible interventions and shortlisted interventions for developing the investment case. Phase 2 conducted an examination of two shortlisted interventions in greater details to develop the economic case for investment in these options. The two interventions analysed were Mangrove management and Pokkali integrated rice-fish farming. This study was scheduled to be carried out from the second-half of 2019 and the study design and field work had to be changed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with the balance shifting towards more expert consultations and data support from secondary sources to compensate for the relatively lesser amount of field work based data. A brief presentation on the first phase, will be followed by a presentation on the economic analysis of the integrated farming component of the study, which is based on data from the field-work.
