Abstract:-
Large and frequent movements in agricultural prices impact producers’ income; consumers’ economic access to food and governments’ ability to plan exports / imports. The main objective of the study is to identify a smaller set of nodal markets for easier price monitoring. The methodology used to identify the leading/nodal markets is VAR / VECM, combined with Granger–causality tests. The study uses secondary data on daily/weekly market arrivals and prices of perishable commodities (tomato, onion and potato) from the AGMARKNET database. The analysis identified about nine tomato, eight onion and six potato markets as the leading/nodal markets.
